End of a very trying and tiring week of work. Uneventful St. Valentine's Day - restablishing the pattern so rudely interrupted a couple of years back. Exchanged stupid jokes with a similarly afflicted colleague however. Yesterday's assessment of damaged knee means no marching for me tomorrow. Demon confirm further delays in establishing connection. Miserable. Offered food and sympathy which I gratefully accept and end up having a late night.
Frustrating week - everyone is sick or elsewhere. I've been mostly on my own in our team, keeping me busy and not allowing much time to get up to date. Tempers fraying - at least one official complaint filed during the week! Lounging around and doing nothing, partly due to the lack of a network connection. Have started studies however, which is interesting (and reasonably gentle just now).
Minor work irritation. Trying to stay in touch with phoneless friends without network has been painful too - tried to resolve misunderstandings caused by me not being around to reply to mail, then not reading it properly in the few snatched seconds between panics. Replacement monitor arrives - worth the expense, installs without any trouble and feels comfortable once I've adjusted to it. Forgot I was meant to be somewhere else tonight, which was possibly cancelled anyway. Slight concern that I'm slipping out of favour in many quarters just now.
Later start - took today off to recover, but happily most things are fine here. Books shelved, CDs stacked etc. Out to UNISON AGM at lunchtime - seized chance to use network at the office - placed new DSL order, will necessitate a change of hostname, but hopefully this won't be too inconvenient. Desperate to be back online. Later. back into town (an eight minute walk, approx. double the old journey) for a colleague's wedding related bash - all actually very good fun, most amusing and excellent company. Managed to fall over, damaging already painful knee. Sleepy.
I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
