The Police finally catch up with me. Apparently they've been trying to call on me all week, but the investigation team only seem to work office hours! Lots of questions which seem academic since they have someone. After telling them I had no birthmarks that I was aware of, piercings, tattoos or other distinguishing features, I realised just how boring I am!

Lots of Gaia related fiddling today. Distracted from main task at hand by making a nice pretty error handling thing, a DTD for the question modules, and generally doing not much of use.

Last Night of The Proms seems somewhat lacklustre - can't say why, but it lacked a lot of its pomp, and indeed its circumstance this time around. Persuaded some #lemmings to watch via the net, leaving them somewhat confused I think. A bit of an IRC reunion of sorts tonight.

I'm amazed that I managed to avoid mentioning the strange events in Ashcombe Road this week for so long. It seems that sometime in the early hours of Tuesday morning, a man was shot dead in a house in my street. Despite noticing a bunch of Police vehicles and some 'incident tape' in the distance when arriving home on Tuesday, I was blissfully ignorant of the situation until arriving in work on Wednesday when my colleagues filled me in on the news.

The Police seem to think its non-random, and that no-one else is at risk. Hard to say - some odd people live in this street (and no, I don't discount myself - but I'm odd in a solitary way, and therefore likely safe!). Tonight I noticed Police staff making an at best cursory search of the gardens at this end of the street - presumably for a weapon.

I'm sure once I'd have found all this exciting, alarming, even frightening. The way things are here nowadays, its just a bit depressing...

A rare weekend when England's cricket, football and rugby teams all seem to be suddenly winning! Saw the football match yesterday, which was possibly the least inspiring of my sport viewing options. Was amused/alarmed by St. George flag burning antics in Macedonian crowd! Busy times. Got lots of tidying, moving stuff around and general sorting done today. Popped over to Burnham to collect new bookcases, which make life a lot tidier hereabouts. First one was painful to assemble, but we were like professionals for the second! Also brought back five boxes of records - the first time some of them have been with me since I left Burnham six years ago! Still more to come however... Fixed aftermath of RedHat beta updates, which didn't work well for me. This got the site and CVS back up. New GNOME build shows 2.4 promise. Sleepy.

For the past two days, Telewest have left the Town Hall with at best a patchy phone service. Inbound was via the switch only, and out was randomly busy, unobtainable or just plain slow to go anywhere. This coincided with schools reopening after six weeks of holiday. Possibly the most frustrating two days of the entire year to date.

Otherwise, just plain busy. Intermittently working on Gaia where time permits - and that's not as much as I'd like. Trying to stay on top of administrivia here, and keep positive.

On a more interesting note, the search for William Kent continues. An enquiry at the library of the Society of Antiquaries turns up no papers, but they have a copy of his certificate of fellowship. A lead of sorts...

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
