An almost solid week of School Admission Appeals - all seems to have gone well, and only one was really difficult or unpleasant. Nerves almost got the better of me first time out, but otherwise I think I've done my best for the school in question. The decisions remain in the hands of the panel of course. Impossible to pre-judge outcomes. Otherwise, I've achieved (indeed, had energy for) little else. Caught up with someone I don't talk to nearly enough. Drank too much wine. I'm having dreams about Net Capacity Assessments. Got James Fenton's 'An Introduction to English Poetry', which is a pleasant enough read, along with a bunch of CD's I could ill afford. A week I've been worrying about for a long time is unbelievable over!

Strange, quiet weekend. Prepared for Monday's first set of Appeal Hearings, and rebuilt GNOME. Fixed Evolution bug with a build from CVS, meaning its collecting local mail once again - amazed that 1.4.0 shipped with such a fundamental bug - even if it did surface in a rather late snapshot prior to XD2 being released. Tidied and prepared for things I won't have time to do next week. FuzzyTheBear prompted me to hack on Denzil some more. Fixed the build system, and set up CVS. Spent some time with Fuzzy encouraging CVS to work, and getting Denzil to build.

Ludicrously early start. Bristol Airport for 08:15 flight to Dublin. Attended last day of GU4DEC for a break, and a chance to catch up with people. Attended some talks, including the rather frightening 'How to Get Started in GNOME' talk, which instead of encouraging new hackers, probably frightened a few seasoned ones off! Lunched with Gman, and briefly chatted with hallski, rhult, andersca, jdahlin and bevin. All too soon I was off to the airport. Exhausting day, but a nice change from appeal preparation.

Launched The George Gissing Discussion List on the Victoria List. Some nice positive repsonses are encouraging, and people are slowly beginning to sign up. Need to lead by example with an introductory post. This page needs pruning, very badly. Swamped in work, but off to Dublin for the day tomorrow.
I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
