Lots of books arrived yesterday - some of them set books for next year's course. Found a FirstClass client for Linux which works, but is based on the (in my opinion) hideous Qt libraries. I though a year working with Novell Netware was horrible. New Years Eve brings its usual truckload of reassessment and regurgitation - and its only 11:00am. I should try to think less.... A resolution? How about to give up apologising for everything. Oh - and another one - ALWAYS read the ChangeLog!!! Update 16:00hrs - Finally rebuilt the CVS Evolution, and feel very intimate with Makefiles.

So this page gains another (and very dedicated!) reader. This results in me spiraling back through the Daylog wonder just exactly what I'd written. Actually, life hasn't been so bad this past year, despite some random calamities (which weren't even all my fault in most cases!). More messing about with CVS versions of stuff - finally got a new bonobo up and running late tonight. Had lunch with a long-lost (to me at least!) ex-colleague yesterday which as ever resulted in lots of amusing tales of confusion and gerontology. Somehow this reminded me just how desperate my work situation had become before I took decisive action. Preparing for more of the same next week... Later, watched "It's a Wonderful Life" - a corny festive season thing to do? Maybe, but still one of the most moving films ever made.

After much hacking about with them, my CVS versions of Evolution et al are all installed and working - I've even managed to get live spell-checking in the composer working thanks to gnome-spell. A blanket of snow covers Weston this morning - and last night I had my first snowball fight in many, many years. More fiddling about with gpuce this afternoon. Had minor success with latest Galeon after much headache and gratuitous symlinking!

Had a really happy, relaxing and memorable day yesterday, and finally got to bed very very late indeed after being seen dancing (imagine!). Back to serious stuff today however, with a Burnham trip cancelled I set about finally ending my year of wimping out, and building Evolution and associated bits and bobs from CVS. Still fiddling as I write at 23:02, but I've managed to hack my way through a broken header file in gnomeprint and messed about with a bunch of Makefiles to get gal built. Confidence improving by the minute.... Really need some sleep now though.....

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
