Exhasuted after a late night. Didn't really get myself into gear today - partly due to miserable, wintery weather. Worked a bit on splitting out all the common gtkdial and gwvedit code into a shared library for parsing the wvdial.conf file. The early version of libwvconf.so is pretty poor, but a start. Yesterday was a strange mix - got a new printer (HP Deskjet 930C) and packed up the old one to send to Germany. Later assisted with cleaning up a house, had an amazing impromptu dinner and then became a bit sad - but happily had the chance to talk to someone about it. A strange weekend after a very strange week!

A truly bizarre day. Early meeting determines the obvious - there is not room for everyone in the accomodation provided, and that the service faces a crisis in trying to operate from the depot. A skeleton staff is dispatched to another office to keep things going, whilst a manager and I keep plates spinning. After lunch, the largest delegation of suits I've seen in one place arrive - the Chief Executive (who is also acting as Director of Social Services), his tranche of lieutenants, our senior managers. They array themselves along one wall of a small, stuffy, noisy room and attempt to explain. The atmosphere is fraught, but generally people are just pleased that our plight has been acknowledged. Negotiations proceed and we obtain one more room, which just about eases the pressure. By the time the Corporate Property Officer arrives, incandescent with rage at a sign saying "do not demolish partition" everyone is too hysterical to care. Quote of today has to be the immaculately delivered "Listen sonny - I'm a logistics professional" - although it only squeaks past the downright odd "We will not implement anything which is not governance robust". One side effect of this whole episode is that I no longer know or even care what is happening in the wider world!

Moving day. Leaving Russell House again was not as difficult as previously, despite general displeasure with the new location. Moments before we left, the unions stirred and all was once again uncertain. The move itself was reasonably chaotic, badly planned and as ever, incredibly stressful for all concerned. Later in the day, senior managers arrive and claim to be ignorant of the move. Things seem to be coming to a head, and a meeting of all concerned is due tomorrow. Went home and became instantly exhausted. Drank too much wine. Booked a flight to Dublin for Linuxworld and promised to post my printer to Germany!

Things feel pensive and strange pending our work move this week. It's also strangely quiet. Thankfully the day went really quickly. Lots to do today - built new gal and gtkhtml in order to build Evolution (which went to Beta 4 today). Also uploaded new gal and gtranslator snapshots (which are here). Downloads from this site hit 45mb yesterday due to new gtkdial/gwvedit pacakges!

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
