The Movebook - Basics

The movebook attempts to record all my movements on the railway since I began keeping usable records. Unfortunately, that really only covers the period since early 2004, and I regret that many memorable journeys between 1992-2004 are not recorded here. Each entry on the main site will have a link to that day's activity added automatically. This page allows more systematic searching and reporting on the data. Please note that mileages recorded are generally public timetable miles, or where this is not possible they are rounded to the nearest quarter mile in the same way as those in the National Rail Timetable.

Searching the Movebook

The Movebook data can be searched by date, working, class or individual unit. It will return all relevant workings since records commenced. Each reported item of stock can then be queried to find all occasions on which it has been travelled on. The search will now include heritage diesel locomotives with other members of their class,

Stock Reports

A variety of reports are also available which calculate total mileage by class member across all classes travelled on. These can be ordered by running number, or by mileage.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
