Realised its just over three months since I broke my arm. Its actually quite comforting to feel vaguely in control of destiny once again, when compared to how frustrating that era was. Rewarded myself with some study-leave today. Prepared an essay I'm really not very proud of for T171 about UNIX, historically accurate but bland - mainly due to the tiny word limit and needing to attempt to convince the tutors that I'd read the course materials. Popped into my old office here in Weston, but was whisked away to see a sick friend. Spent the afternoon on a frantic web content mission prior to a pleasant dinner/meeting this evening. Acquired an ironing board at last, so there really is no longer any excuse to appear in public looking wrinkled.

Starting on what was likely to be a lengthy and dull project at work, trawling through approximately three years of old paperwork trying to glean finite bits of data about weekend evening working. In the end, it went reasonably well with three of us working on it. Maybe a day more and some time to collate it? Otherwise, spent quite a bit of time on #gnome as the flames raged once again about gconf and bonobo-config. Its vaguely depressing, but I guess it's not going to go away without being resolved one way or another - the sad thing is, I suspect someone will take their ball home and not play over this. Real life is quiet, sober and reflective. Prepared some RPMs of gal from CVS (which are here), mainly in order to test a snapshot RPM of gtranslator, packages of which are also available.

Following on from the shock of enjoying both Christmas and New Year, I manage to have another mould-breaking MikeGTN moment by enjoying a bank holiday! Started early by apparently fixing Evolution's refusal to display (or even acknowledge the existence) of message bodies from certain sources with an update from CVS. Next, headed to Burnham in bright sunshine and watched the morning's test match play. Back to Weston in time to wander around searching for a set of boules, followed by a hillarious attempt to discover how to play the game - which of course I turned out to be dreadful at! Usual masculine responses to being crap at games ensued. Happy and sleepy now.

Got up late, feeling groggy. Set out for Burnham but for some reason the driver of the 12:00 bus decided to pass me by. Made it back to the station in time to see the 12:21 train leaving. Decided that perhaps it wasn't the best day to be trying to get to Burnham. Later, went to a music and dance festival in Grove Park - watched an amazing guy from one of the African drumming troupes perform an array of gymnastic, balancing and juggling acts! Came home early, quitting whilst ahead as they say. More work on my little daylog app today, which (since I'm writing this in it) appears to work fine! Lots of crazy ideas for adding features which are sure to make it as unwieldy and slow as firing up a text editor is anyway!

Lost::MikeGTN

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
