End of a trying week at work, full of tensions and typographical errors.

Went out, in reasonably ebullient spirits to watch a football match. All seemed well, with a brief discussion of the name of Basil Brushes' master to look up when I got home (its 'Mr' something, but I've yet to find it).

Later, a random bystander referred to me as 'repulsive'. I'm called many things in the course of my daily work, I cope with most, but I must confess that this one hit me below the belt.

The people I perhaps usually and mistakenly rely on to convince I'm actually not repulsive are just making me feel irrelevant.

Perhaps its time to develop a Poll Module for this site - reader, would you prefer to be repulsive or irrelevant? What have I become?

A long awaited, and well prepared appeal was withdrawn today. It would have settled some dust still remaining from Bristol City Council days, but sadly the appellant withdrew after months of uncertainty. Of course I'm glad to avoid another hearing, but it would have been good to get this one under the belt.

Otherwise, work is in a slightly stressful spiral right now - all will be resolved soon enough, for better or worse...

More Gaia work today. We are rapidly approaching an alpha quality release I feel. I've never been involved in such an organised project, and getting to work with Bilbo has been a pleasure.

Finished 'Hawksmoor' by Peter Ackroyd. Strange book, rather disturbing in places. Appealed to my topographical interests however, and highly recommended. Spent this morning lost in lots of websites about Glasgow's lots railways and so forth. Wished I was in London or Glasgow if only to go wandering. Later, decided to wander here instead - pleasant walk up through the cemetary (where I'd never been) and through older and more affluent residential areas of town. Down Montpelier with the usual fantastic views across town to the sea, and a quick explore of Christ Church. I don't wander nearly as much as I used to.

Otherwise, rather surprised to discover I very vaguely know someone involved in the recent happenings in the street. It is indeed, a very small world.

I managed to lock myself out this morning. I realised pretty much the second I closed the door behind me. Felt momentarily stupid and fired off an SMS message to the one person who has a key! Worry returned later when we thought the key might have been ditched in a clean-up of the 'this key doesn't fit anything here so I don't need it' variety! Finally got back in, feeling somewhat dumb and rather dejected about 7pm. It's been a long day...

This about sums up this week - timewasting and pointlessness. Finding work hard going - since, after two productive weeks, we're being slowed to a halt by different working methods. Still managed to catch up and remain relatively calm.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
