Spent the morning playing with Eazel Services via Nautilus. Its now drawing the desktop for me, which looks nice, and seems OK speedwise in the cold light of day! Amused by my colleagues disbelief in my assertions of happiness in this daylog. If anyone else wants a CD-R of the Ximian GNOME 1.4 beta 1 packages for RedHat 7.0+, it'll cost you a quid inc. postage - UK only. Otherwise a quiet day today.

A very busy day - early meeting, then a hurried lunch, followed by an appointment with Occupational Health in Bristol. Encouraged by this, off to Ikea on an errand. It's worth noting that whilst I'm not great at imagining 'bags of sugar' or whatever, 25kg is pretty heavy to get from Eastville to Temple Meads! Trundled over to Burnham this evening to raid my parents house for excess furnishings as they are soon to move home. Came back with an almost forgotten electric guitar (hero of the Archway Tavern gig and many recordings) and a real, working Rolf Harris Stylophone!

The end of a tiring but pretty amazing weekend really. Spent much of the afternoon, evening and early morning downloading most of Gnome 1.4 Beta 1. All installed and working nicely - including the beautiful looking (but a little sluggish, or perhaps that's me at 3am?) Nautilus. Other highlights include much improved launch feedback via xalf, some gtk+ niceness which prevents menus from disappearing from under you when leaping diagonally, and "stacking" of related windows in the tasklist_applet. Evolution working nicely (including the calendar, briefly!). Need to sleep now.

More unseasonal weather, and uncharacteristic happiness! Seem to have got back in sync with anoncvs now, and I'm eagerly awaiting the return of Evolution. Received a very strange but very good demo tape from a Scottish band called "The Klingons". Very lazy day reading whilst things build. Just realised that I can position my chair so that I can watch aeroplanes circling in the holding pattern for Bristol Airport. Recommended soundtrack: M. Did I mention how happy I was today?

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
