So now Gmailq-applet is my latest obsession. Leaps and bounds early on, slowing to a grind by mid-afternoon. It now works pretty well, and can easily be changed to display different (but still pretty horrible looking) icons...I'm just no Tigert I'm afraid. So, here is the tarball, the RedHat 7.0 RPM and the RedHat 6.2 RPM for download. Just heard that Glastonbury Festival is cancelled, which is a bit of a shocker. Otherwise, its a strange and pensive day.

Quite a busy day by recent standards. Rose early for GP appointment, which went better than expected and means that the infamous "Plan B" can stay under wraps for a while (much to my relief). Later got a letter inviting me to a job interview which probably won't produce a result, but a positive event all the same. Spent the afternoon messing around with a new Gnome app to check the outgoing mail queue after knocking up a poor Perl hack for >'s new owner a month or two back. So, Gmailq is here (tar.gz), or here as an RPM (RedHat 6.2/RedHat 7.0). In particular, thrill at my hopelessly unimaginative drawing of a postbox! Late Update: I've just managed to turn Gmailq into an applet, but I've also just realised that hours have passed in the process!

Back to normality - or what has passed for it here lately. A visit to the doctor tomorrow will determine the immediate future, but with the serious weirdness of much of last year behind me I feel vaguely optimistic and cautiously dynamic just now. New Year was a lot of fun - imagine - I manage to have a good time at Christmas and New Year. Latest Evolution CVS builds beautifully, and now saves state in the Executive-Summary component. Later attempts to involve OpenLDAP fall flat, however.Time to start working in earnest on Gtkdial 0.3.

Lots of books arrived yesterday - some of them set books for next year's course. Found a FirstClass client for Linux which works, but is based on the (in my opinion) hideous Qt libraries. I though a year working with Novell Netware was horrible. New Years Eve brings its usual truckload of reassessment and regurgitation - and its only 11:00am. I should try to think less.... A resolution? How about to give up apologising for everything. Oh - and another one - ALWAYS read the ChangeLog!!! Update 16:00hrs - Finally rebuilt the CVS Evolution, and feel very intimate with Makefiles.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
