Some major updating done on the StreetServer, including adding some functionality to the search page and a basic introductory help/about screen. Nice to be doing something useful with this box again, after several days spent updating GNOME libraries. Still can't get Evolution to build however. The Americans moved to their new home in Bristol today.

Despite this probably being a declaration of open season for dOOdz and crAkeRz the world over, I've implemented what seems to be a reasonably effective little ipchains firewall. I know, just in time for iptables to replace ipchains! Today is moving day (part 1) for the Americans, as Dembo haven't managed to get Transco mobilised as fast as they'd like

The huge gap in daylog entries is the result of more downtime for Lionel- in no small part due to my own stupidity when attempting to upgrade to XFree86 4.0, as offered on the latest Linux Format coverdisk. This is one time I think I'll wimp out and wait for RPMs. Trying out a 2.4.0 test Kernel, which seems OK so far. Vaguely uneasy about the discovery that this page actually has readers...(hello Linden!). Added the beginnings of a page dedicated to Linux applications.

Got the Glasgow trip practically sorted out. Can't wait to get up there again - only an essay or so between me and Scotland! Got to eat at the Bombay Spice - surely Bristol's finest Indian restaurant. Gave some tentative Linux telephone support over the phone today...actually went OK!

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
