A day off - which would have been part of the Birmingham Expo, or indeed a trip to Cambridge, but instead is a mad dash through Bristol. Caught up with ex-colleagues briefly, visited the archives at the Central Library, tried once again to find somewhere which could sell me Pernice Brothers tickets, no luck. Picked up the Kingsbury Manx CD - not had a moment to listen to it yet - still transfixed by the American Analog Set release which arrived on Monday. Reasonably impressed by the 'Open Source Community' response to world events - the debate has been measured and thought-provoking on the whole. Personally feel that ESR could have left his personal gripes about US gun law out of things for a while at least - there will no doubt be plenty of time for dissection of events later. This evening was pretty funny - a fondue party - really sorted out the hunter-gatherer types, with some people working efficiently enough to consume twice as much food as others! Metadiscussion again follows. I feel OK though - I really do!

Who on earth needs another personal account of today's events?

Missed an early train to Burnham, but got the 10:00am bus. Became a very hot day somewhere during the journey. Went with my parents to view their soon to be new car, along with brother-in-law. Received SMS message from Kabalak to say that gtranslator 0.39 was ready for packaging whilst en route back to Weston. Built RPMs and messed with SourceForge for a bit. Cleaned house. Decided to hack on gtkdial for a bit. Finally fixed weird pseudo-session management bug which had put me off working on it. Cleaned up other bits and prepped for release. On a roll now, I set about fixing the build process for gwvedit. A nasty hack got the RPMs building, so that too is practically release ready, except for a late bugreport from Germany!

Imagine, me receiving financial advice! Still, it was actually useful - and I'm marginally better off as a result, as well as slightly better situated to do Principia stuff. Yesterday, confirmation of Housing Benefit arrived - for the period I was off work with a broken arm (um...May-June wasn't it?). Incredulously considered the plight of those who REALLY need it for a bit, before deciding that I was probably lucky to get it anyway. Out for a while last night - felt incredibly pleased to see one of my dearest friends happier and more carefree than for a very long time. Finished "All Families are Psychotic" today - it has to become a film, its all so cinematic. In fact, trying to describe the plot to someone else I felt remarkably silly, like I was reading some trashy airport-bookstall crap where the author's name eclipses the title in the typeface stakes. However, when you least expect it, Douglas throws in one of his acute observations on the modern and absurd. Hmm....how very 90's - talking in decades again - but surely that's infinately preferable to apologising.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
