I ate pizza for the first time ever today! Yes, that staple of hacker foods, previously denied me for nigh on 29 years due to irrational cheese avoidance. You might argue that the last thing my burgeoning waistline needs right now is another foodstuff to expand its empire, however it's a triumph of sorts. My resumption of contact with the world outside leads me to realise that not all my political opinions are compatible with the current climate. A year's crash course in keeping my mouth shut helps, but its tough to listen to ignorant and ill-informed rubbish at the best of times. Thankfully, managed to get together with a sensible friend and talk later. Looks like an unpopular office move will take place after all, and this will have an impact on my commute time - nothing like as long as before though, so I've maintained a Zenlike calm about it all. It will be sad to once again leave Russell House, but I figure this time its for good. Some promising upcoming concert dates arrive. A new Beulah record is eagerly awaited - despite the slightly dark memories surrounding the last one. Still can't believe I ate pizza!
A strange day, and a strange weekend. Spent an awful lot of time on Ximian's Monkeytalk channel - and actually helped a few people I think. Wandered out early in the evening, but didn't get far. Managed to get Sun's Java Plugin working with Galeon - which is now effectively my browser of choice. Twisted my ankle on absolutely nothing yesterday. Still hurts a bit. Will be rather odd to return to work - even short absences seem to catapult me back to my old habits.
Further work on gtkdial, and it looks like I probably will have to hand it off to the i18n types before its ready to go. Still, time to make sure it does *really* work now! Finished some typing work and got paid, which was nice. Otherwise spent much of the day cleaning and tidying. Tried in vain to make contact with the outside world.
Another day of relative freedom. Did some minor work on gtkdial in preparation for 0.4.0. Early GP appointment is encouraging. Less than productive time at the library - but pretty impressed with Weston library (and sort of embarassed I'd not visited in the past four years!). Embarked on the great Country'n'Western taping project - transferring a bunch of old LPs to tape. Pretty funny, especially Waylon Jennings doing "Theme from Dukes of Hazzard". Redeemed myself with amazing Kingsbury Manx CD. Plans for tomorrow include another Bristol visit, involving complex bus manouvres. Just waking up on time might be the hardest part....
I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
