As predicted, today was never going to be terribly easy. Still, it's done with - and there is quite a bit going on this week and coming weekend. Finally back working on gwvedit after a couple of days enforced break - tying up some polish and build stuff, then its time to merge the two packages together. Today's bonus was a *real* train in to work - a Class 47 and Mk2 coaches in bright sunshine!
A strange but productive weekend - after major laptop crash (losing a whole day's work on gwvedit) on Friday, things were looking vaguely bad. Lots of housekeeping on Saturday, interspersed with redoing Fridays' work. Decided to finally release gtkdial, without new icons. Late evening drink with a returning group of birdwatchers. Today spent furiously hacking on gwvedit, resulting in a release of the 'early and often' variety - mostly working - needs polish, but almost there. Somewhere during all this, I ended up being elevated to Journeyer on Advogato. Feel weird now - last full week of work ahead, and I fear it won't be an easy one...
Busy day - started hacking on gwvedit on the (heavily delayed) train to work. Managed to get it saving files reasonably sensible, and generating relatively useful feedback on doing so. Needs some polish and usability tweaks however. Spent some time on Advogato looking at new entries and pretty much applying telsa's rules for certifying - even noticed a local!
Weird stuff which I have witnessed in the past few days includes a bungled and half-assed citizen's arrest, a man impersonating a doctor, and a train cancelled due to a "lack of unavailable train crew". Delayed gtkdial release in the hope of new icons. More 'under the bonnet' tweaking too. Brit Quiz starts with amazing round, a narrow win in the second, and a loss to a great score in the third. Overall we didn't win, but swept the board due to nice 'nearest the bull' question on lunar temperature. Wished "good hacking" on departing a friend's house tonight. This makes me happy.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
