Long awaited first day of new job. I suppose knowing a great deal of the people was a huge advantage - but living down a several year old reputation presents its own problems! Learned quite a bit - in fact crammed, since the person who I'm using as a resource will soon be disappearing. Being back at Russell House aroused some strange, and sometimes unwelcome memories. New icons for gtkdial arrive from aubanel, and look great - and very GNOME-like. Long walk back home in the sunshine tonight is tiring, but such a welcome change after over a year of communting! Feel happily busy today.

Went to Burnham to bid farewell to my parents home, since its looking likely they'll be moving next weekend. Chased memory leaks in gtkdial and gwvedit later, and discovered some very odd behaviour which I think is down to RedHat's latest gcc packages. Rapidly deteriorated into extreme tiredness after a brief transatlantic chat and sitting in the sun for too long.

Appointment with consultant goes well - with a return to work next Monday! Much relieved and happy to see some semblance of order returning to life. Less good experience with attempting to get insurance and financial matters sorted, and this is potentially a cause of great difficulty. Later, persuaded the DSS to release a payment (goodness knows why they hadn't done so already?!?). Feeling immensely relieved about going back to work. Worked on plugging leaks in gwvedit.

Felt pretty dreadful on waking, due to heavy wine consumption yesterday evening - perhaps I'm just out of practice. Contented myself with a lazy day watching TV (still barely working!), catching up on mail and even working on a speedily approaching OU assignment.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
