Managed to solve weird and persistent lpd problems by recompiling from source. Finally got Gnoetry and updated one or two other things which had slipped by. Went to purchase the wood and other bits and bobs for Project Chessboard - which may even see fruition before GUADEC. Brief wanderings cheer me somewhat, but there is strangeness about, or I'm paranoid (both probably!). Nice, unexpected gtkdial feedback, and a Turkish translation from Kabalak.
Not a positive day - my reserve job opportunity fails to produce the goods, and I'm left high and dry. Still, the weather was cold and bright - just how I like it, and after a reasonably productive morning (in which Pix had her stitches removed and her recovery deemed remarkable) I ventured out. Paid a brief visit to Balancing Energy, which cheered me somewhat. Principia actually sold something! Bashing bugs in gwvedit with a fury previously unknown. I don't particularly want these doldrums to pervade next week - so could anyone bearing bad news please speak now and get it out of the way.
Early hours upgrade to Kernel 2.2.19 (note my continuing reluctance to go the 2.4 way!). This ensures reasonable sleep, but somehow either this or some pam and krb5 fixes from Red Hat have completely broken lpd! GP visit early on gives food for thought, and increases trepidation levels in these parts. Another failure to perform in the Brit Quiz, in part due to being exhausted and dismayed.
Playing with voltron's iThought, a little app that manages your thoughts and notes, and distributes them to various places by way of simple to write modules. Working on a little Perl thing to post them to this very daylog. Forgot in the turmoil of the last few days that the first essay of the year is back - managed 79, not bad I suppose. Went on a surprise cinema trip to Bristol to see Sånger från andra våningen. A really fine film, if somewhat bizarre in places. Recommended.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
