A strange weekend, but a reasonably happy and relaxing one. Latest CVS Evolution builds fine, and I have my addressbook back which is a relief. Not much done on Gmailq or Gtkdial lately, but prepared mentally by having a long sleep in followed by a big house-cleaning spree.
More obsessive work on Gmailq. Improved the preferences dialog with GnomeIconEntry, and made it catch some configuration errors. Otherwise trying to catch up on CVS evolution, but problems with anoncvs.gnome.org seem to be hampering efforts. Doubts are beginning to creep into the otherwise optimistic beginning of the year - hey, four and a half days is not bad going for me! Rude awakening time - tried to contact someone without an e-mail address today and found the number had gone out of use. Have I truly geeked out at last?
So now Gmailq-applet is my latest obsession. Leaps and bounds early on, slowing to a grind by mid-afternoon. It now works pretty well, and can easily be changed to display different (but still pretty horrible looking) icons...I'm just no Tigert I'm afraid. So, here is the tarball, the RedHat 7.0 RPM and the RedHat 6.2 RPM for download. Just heard that Glastonbury Festival is cancelled, which is a bit of a shocker. Otherwise, its a strange and pensive day.
Quite a busy day by recent standards. Rose early for GP appointment, which went better than expected and means that the infamous "Plan B" can stay under wraps for a while (much to my relief). Later got a letter inviting me to a job interview which probably won't produce a result, but a positive event all the same. Spent the afternoon messing around with a new Gnome app to check the outgoing mail queue after knocking up a poor Perl hack for >'s new owner a month or two back. So, Gmailq is here (tar.gz), or here as an RPM (RedHat 6.2/RedHat 7.0). In particular, thrill at my hopelessly unimaginative drawing of a postbox! Late Update: I've just managed to turn Gmailq into an applet, but I've also just realised that hours have passed in the process!
I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
