Starting porting gtkdial to libwvconf in ernest. So far, so good. Ordered some new music, including the latest by The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band. Excited to hear that after the last mournful and amazing effort. Today went really fast, but was plagued with uncertainty. Need to get a haircut, and to stop eating so much rubbish, and to practice some of the disengaging tactics I've read about but failed to embrace. Half wondering if a return to citalopram-land is required to kick-start things. In general, this should be a time of consolidation and repair - but the regular Oktoberfest of birthdays and ancient superstitions is messing with things. Later, talked with Gman and Telsa about Dublin trip - looks like it might be fun despite cancellation of linuxworld.ie. Watched an Eddi Reader webcast to remind me of Tuesday.
An insanely boring task underway at work, but plodding on nonetheless. Thankfully interrupted later by some heartening news. Built Evolution, and coerced the latest snapshot of gtranslator into building with a tiny patch.
Just back from seeing Eddi Reader. Very entertaining, and poignant - especially an improptu rendition of Masters of War with a bit of Gates of Eden thrown in! Fell in love with Ms. Reader several times over of course - the Glasgow accent or the singing voice? You decide. Exhausted - not sleeping great due to preoccupation and bursts of disbelief. Good talk last night got me on the straight and narrow. Did some tentative trade union organising for the first time in years, collaborating closely with my ex-comrades in UNISON.
Urgh! Should probably not have gone out last night. Had been feeling pretty dodgy all day, and not in the best of moods. Tried to get through it, but ended up getting drunk far too fast and stumbling dizzily through the maze of gardens at the top end of the seafront and trying desperately to make it home before being horribly ill! So, a late and groggy start - not feeling much better. Braved torrential rain to get some supplies and a Dublin Rough Guide. Tried to get in touch with people, to little avail. US attacks start - spoke with my sister for some time about what was going on. We tried to nervously make light of events. Hacked a bit on libwvconf. Demon seems to be lacking any kind of US connectivity tonight.
I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.
I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
