As birthday weekends go, this was a pretty good one. Yesterday drank way too much wine and ate far too much Chinese food. Had a very pleasant evening celebrating interview success and impending birthday. Today, a drive out over the moors to the Blue Flame, then to Battleaxes at Wraxall for a huge dinner. Return journey via The Bell at Banwell. Another really good day. Extremely sleepy now.

Interview day at last. Wonderful frosty but bright morning. Started nervously but improved. Interview went well, managed to say all I wanted, and to sound reasonably confident. Later, informed I'd been successful. Told in fact that I'd interviewed better than for my previous job back in 2002. Much relieved and very happy. Sent an important text message, and various e-mails with the news. A pleasant but busy day. Presented with early birthday gift and cards on leaving the office. Sort of stunned and exhausted now! Copy of first part of Pevsner arrives, looks incredibly interesting if complicated. A good day, overall. Time to start work on Monday's appeal case...

Extremely busy week. Seem to have been dodging around catching up with things at work, out of the office lots, and today at two rather tricky appeal hearings, which went well - but not without a lot of work. Restless day otherwise. Interview tomorrow. Nervous despite all reassurances. Further appeal for Monday means I need to keep my wits about me. Pleasant telephone conversation this evening restores some faith.

I've decided to head to the City for Lord Mayor's Day if at all possible. Attempted to drum up interest from a friend who would also enjoy the day, but not it around it seems. Time to investigate trains...

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
