First day back at work. Goes slowly, but generally OK. Sort of wished I could disappear on one of the buses which load and unload right outside the building! Looks like I may be busier than expected this next few weeks. Started arranging a small gathering for the end of the month. Finally deemed GNOME2 stable enough to run it as my primary desktop on this box. Very happy with the way its working right now. Have to wait two weeks for the next series of University Challenge - not sure I'll cope. Seems television is becoming worryingly important in my life.

Rebuilt GNOME2 from the ground up. All went swiftly and smoothly, and much improvement - especially in stability - is noted. GTK+2.0 arrived at last, and was immediately Slashdoted - with the usual display of ignorance and stupidity following. Went to Burnham, where if anything the weather was more unpredictable and blustery that here. Holed myself up in the flat to avoid it. My eyeball hurts.

A series of reasonably trivial but annoying things happened today - culminating in a watchspring popping out and hitting me in the right eye. I'll survive. Last Bristol trip of the holiday, much running up and down hills before finally slumping before this weeks much anticipated episode of Black Books. Afterwards, realised we've practically been living in the series this week - which was strangely comforting, and slightly alarming. I personally put it down to watching eight episodes in four days. Others have no excuses! So, an irksome day turned out OK in the end, and my holiday is officially over. Had nice mail urging me to go to GUADEC, which is completely impossible. Nice of people to mail about it however.

A busy week - zipping up and down to Bristol in reasonably fine weather has been nice. Actually working on something productive has been even better. On Wednesday I attended a special one-off revival of the Brit Quiz in memoriam of Martin, our quiz master who sadly died recently after a long illness. We raised a tidy sum for Weston Hospicecare, and failed to shine - just to ensure tradition was followed. Attempted to solve problems with a friends PC and AOL this morning. A blast from the past to say the least. I think I got things working, but its hard to say. More activity on gtkdial based on a feature request.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
