Surprisingly bright morning. Lazy start, then walked to Warne Road to meet some ex-colleagues who I've promised to visit for a while. Back to railway station for a Bristol trip. Lunch and coffee then some wandering in Clifton, bookshop browsing and a chance to pick up the new Delgados CD....

Last day of work before customary birthday holidays. Strangely quiet. My worries that colleagues would not understand my reticence on this matter was unfounded, and I confess that I had a very nice day - lots of presents, cards and good wishes. I'm almost sorry I'm not having my birthday...

Woke to driving rain. Wandered to Swansea station, getting very wet. Asked by newspaper vendor "Is it raining?" - declined detailed answer in case it was impolite, and simply pointed to dripping head instead. Fast and on-time journey back through a very damp and overcast South Wales. Got drenched again...
