Brief lunchtime visit to an ex-workplace confirms that there is a dark cloud over the whole department at present. Dental troubles begin again. Brief visit to Bristol, mainly to find the Lambchop CD. Returned to a very strange and funny evening which reaffirms my faith in many ways. Discovered a new cheese in my local supermarket which seemed (in my vaguely drunken state) to be called 'Bridal Terror'. Dental problems become more unpleasant as the evening wears on. Much work done on gtkdial 0.4.1 release today - recent patches from Auke Kok and Ovidiu Constantin have got me interested again. Expect release action soon....

Back to work. All feels very odd. Slipped out to collect laptop. Very relieved to see it. Even more relieved to find RedHat 7.2 still intact after repair. All seems to be working, despite APM still not reporting sensible power information. Set up network with cheap yet nice little Netgear hub. Felt oddly confused and groundless later. Fixed by finally getting hold of a friend on the telephone. Amazed how much I miss people after such a short time.

Woke up early to bid farewell to Hallski. Bruxelles in the rain was still sort of attractive so did some vague sightseeing before heading rather too early to the station. Long but pleasant journey home, with a long and less pleasant interval waiting at Waterloo for the train to Bristol. Managed some fractured phonecalls on the way home. Realised I'm pretty much penniless until the end of February. Chewed a chunk of mail on my late return, and again cursed lack of a laptop during the trip. Sort of glad to be back, but dreading work somewhat. FOSDEM was fun - it was good to meet some old friends, and to make new acquaintances too. Convinced I won't be at GUADEC for a number of reasons, which is sort of sad.

Second day brings more interesting talks - especially the Jabber talk, and the very well attended and much anticipated Mono talk - which turned out to be quite technical and not the political or evangelistic extravaganza which some had predicted. Everyone was pretty exhausted and uncommunicative, so an early night was in order. Last saw Uriel disappearing into the distance at some speed in pursuit of his aircraft! Hope he made it.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
