There is something oddly transformative about setting up a new laptop. The clean slate, the fresh install without the cruft of add-ins and mods which accrete over time, the determinedly first-day-of-term approach to keeping your textbooks clean and graffiti-free. It doesn't last long, so it was important to seize the moment.
Lost::MikeGTN has existed in some form or other since 1999 - and its origins go back further. I have only managed to preserve the content from the turn of the century however, and a good deal of the cryptic nonsense which describes my poor life choices and crushing romantic defeats is so oblique and cyphered as to be useless. Even to me, and I lived those horrible, shame causing events. So when I was changing around some of the hosting arrangements I effectively ended the site as it stood. I thought about downloading a backup - but like ditching teenage diaries, it felt like time. I lost a lot in the process - writing I actually liked. But the catharsis was invigorating. I'm a very different person now, older, maybe wiser, definitely less desperately focused on my internal self.
But - I'm back. I couldn't resist the opportunity to design something new. To put right all the wrongs of my old, shaky self-written content management system Areopagitica and to create something which would deliver the clear, simple way I think about writing now. So, for good or ill, here it is. I may import some older writings at some future point - but this is a rebeginning...
