Just booked my ticket for Belle & Sebastian on 7th December. Weirdly excited - I haven't seen them since 1998 at the Shephards Bush Empire. Celbrated with a posting to the Sinister List - my first since 1999. I also trawled back through my excruitatingly off-topic posts between 1997-1999, which made me smile.

Finished 'Hawksmoor' by Peter Ackroyd. Strange book, rather disturbing in places. Appealed to my topographical interests however, and highly recommended. Spent this morning lost in lots of websites about Glasgow's lots railways and so forth. Wished I was in London or Glasgow if only to go wandering. Later, decided to wander here instead - pleasant walk up through the cemetary (where I'd never been) and through older and more affluent residential areas of town. Down Montpelier with the usual fantastic views across town to the sea, and a quick explore of Christ Church. I don't wander nearly as much as I used to.

Otherwise, rather surprised to discover I very vaguely know someone involved in the recent happenings in the street. It is indeed, a very small world.

Ten days or so of GNOME 2.4.0 have just been too stable for me! In an effort to correct this I messed around with GTK+ 2.3, which left me pretty much stumped and non-functional for a few hours until I figured out what was going on. Reverted, speedily. Also built the 'nautilus-spatial-playground' branch, which seems very usable. I'm not sure I understand completely the rationale, but it's comfortable to use.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
