Started yesterday with a few trips to the tip and some lifting, followed by some visiting and giant prawns. Today, a bright (and busier than usual) bus journey to Burnham first thing. Finished another Gissing novel on my return. The used bookseller despatched the wrong book, so I'm sort of stuck for reading material for a while. Later, started messing around more with the Monkeytalk client. Over the next few hours it spiralled out of all control, developed some little lemmming icons, and eventually mutated into LemmingChat. Otherwise, a pensive and concern-addled day.

Got to meeting in Exeter, via some very strange directions from a deeply unreliable passer by. It was held in a rather grand house which belongs to the County of Devon (sort of glad I'm not paying Council Tax down there). Well attended by academics, disability professionals, LEA types and a representative from the DfES. Interesting day. Otherwise, still reading far too fast. Attempting to track down a decent Anglo-Saxon dictionary.

A very early start. Wandered through Bristol as it was waking up, which is always a pleasant experience when the weather is right as it was this morning. Faultless run into Weston in time for breakfast and then to work at the usual hour. A vaguely slow and frustrating day, with occasional moments of humour which as ever help a great deal. Straight to Sterling Books after work to grab the things I'd spotted at the weekend but couldn't afford. Got a concise history of spoken English, and "Sweet's Anglo-Saxon Reader" - with a pretty extensive glossary. International Worker's Day passes without event here in Weston. Off to Exeter LEA for a meeting tomorrow, which will be a break in the routine.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
