A curious day - nice to not be working. Finished my obsessive clean-up from yesterday, and stayed tidy all day. Frustrated by not being able to get in touch with people. Took advantage of time off to visit someone I almost never see nowadays this afternoon. Finally managed a long telephone call, which made me feel a little less concerned later. Some splendidly silly TV on tonight, which helps - and a quite tense University Challenge semi-final. Later, I was surprised to be visited with some art. I really like the sculpture - made me think of Barbara Hepworth and her garden.

Went to Burnham, then on my return persuaded my parents to tour various bits of Weston with me. Spent a lot of time helping (well, hindering) Scizzo in the creation of a potential GNOME2 splash screen. I really like it, and that it is a picture of Bristol is pretty funny/nice. Looks like Scizzo will be coming to the UKUUG event in July too. Huge cleaning and tidying session this afternoon also which was much needed and quite therapeutic in some ways. Got a feature request for gtkdial which I hacked up a response to pretty quickly, after a tiny brush with X libs. Feel like its been a productive day, despite most of the work not being mine.

Another lazy day - I remember how strangely void weekends felt when I had all week, every week off work. At least the weekdays bring reasonable afternoon TV (in the form of Channel 4's Quiz Hour). Listened to the radio a lot, avoided useful work, then ventured out later. A bit directionless and vague. Managed to compile my first ever C# programs using Mono. Unexciting, but rewarding on a day like today, when a 'wild perfume chase' is as interesting as it gets. Weird how you can miss people you see relatively often, isn't it?

This is absurd - I'm so used to being uptight and worried about the immediate future that I'm having a seriously hard time not worrying. Spent today viewing possible new locations, chattering on the phone, lurking on IRC and just being lazy. Accepted a dinner invitation, and ended up on a rare and unexpected Weston night out. A passable blues band and a great deal of Guinness allieviate the possible traumas, and I cope admirably with my reintroduction to the local social scene. Arrived home late to find that, to my great dismay, my VCR had failed to grab "Black Books" for me...hmm.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
