Promising start to day, with some more gtkdial hacking on the train to work - mainly around help files. Later half-way fixed stuff for people using .wvdialrc instead of a .conf file. Surprise night out, lots of interesting talking. An OK day all in all, which is pretty good by recent standards! More Journeyer votes on Advogato leave me feeling humble.

After a weekend in some sort of suspended animation, things finally moved a bit today. Went to Burnham again, but was so preoccupied during the journey I forgot to enjoy it. My dad had stripped and repainted a really nice little cabinet for me. Later, tidied up this site, put my latest essay online, having played with WvWare to convert the file - worked really well. Tonight, a nice surprise dinner which was a pleasant end to a very strange weekend. Feel reconciled to the immediate future at least, which is a good thing.

A very dull day here. Woke early - great weather. Did domestic stuff, and finished too early. Wandered around Weston in the sunshine, getting vaguely irritated at the crowds - it must be summer! Messed about doing nothing useful all day. Damn frustrating. Awaiting appropriate moment to release new gtkdial in the past two days it has gained a French and a Traditional Chinese translation - which I think is actually pretty amazing!

A lot happened today. Firstly, I got the job - I will be returning to North Somerset in much the same role, location and income bracket as I was back in 1996. Next, I discovered just how affected I can be by other people's difficulties and insecurities, and also that it is still possible to shock me. Finally, Eazel are about to fold - which is a sad event for all concerned, a personal blow, and a loss to the GNOME community. All speculation on whether its a flawed business model, the general tech market downturn or whatever has caused this seems futile.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
