After a pretty exhausting week (first full-time work since last November!) I slept extremely late today. More searching for a now almost certainly lost cat leads me to Whitecross Village. I've always been vaguely amused and a bit annoyed at this idea of 'urban villages' within what is already a small town. Anyway, I discovered two Indian Restaurants, a post office, a chinese take away, a laundrette and a reasonably sized supermarket among other useful amenities, within an approximate 6 minute walk from home. Don't get me wrong, I sort of vaguely knew it was there, but not exactly the extent or proximity of it. Maybe having 24hr Tesco and town centre a couple of minutes in the other direction has blinded me to my surroundings. Didn't find the cat however.

Lambchop were absolutely spectacular! Otherwise, an odd day - literally every stone I turn seems to harbour some sort of memory. It's getting vaguely silly. Much enforced reminiscing makes me long for distant pastures. Last night I couldn't sleep - it was bloody hot again, despite the thunderstorm on Wednesday. I was lying there, thinking, planning a bit...and then without any warning I became absolutely, ridiculously angry about the indignity and sillyness of the last year at Bristol City Council, and about the spiralling chain of events it seemed to set in motion. Now most people who know me will say that I've not often lost it since last Summer, and perhaps it's only safe to do so now that things are pretty much completely over. I don't know. I'm glad it happened when no-one was around though - no-one deserves to sit through any more unhapiness as a result of this waste of time, effort, money and sanity. There - an almost honest and transparent diary entry - the first since October 1999. Things must be changing around here.....

Midweek, and exhausted. gtkdial is frozen for translation. Work is confusing and bewildering just now, but can only get clearer. Walked home a couple of times this week, which is no doubt good for me but leves me pretty knackered. Incredible storm last night - lasted for almost six hours by my reckoning, and was as vicious when I was waiting for the bus at 8am as it was at about 2:30am! Follwed by chaos and power failures. Lambchop tomorrow.

Long awaited first day of new job. I suppose knowing a great deal of the people was a huge advantage - but living down a several year old reputation presents its own problems! Learned quite a bit - in fact crammed, since the person who I'm using as a resource will soon be disappearing. Being back at Russell House aroused some strange, and sometimes unwelcome memories. New icons for gtkdial arrive from aubanel, and look great - and very GNOME-like. Long walk back home in the sunshine tonight is tiring, but such a welcome change after over a year of communting! Feel happily busy today.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
