GtkDial

The Main Gtkdial Window

The above figure shows the main Gtkdial window in multi-ISP mode. On starting Gtkdial, the /etc/wvdial.conf file is parsed to construct the list of available ISPs. The Dial and Kill buttons allow easy control of the connection to the ISP currently highlighted in the list (these options are also available via the pull-down menu or Ctrl-D and Ctrl-K on the keyboard).

The single-ISP mode (activated by the preferences dialog, a command line option or if you have only one ISP in your /etc/wvdial.conf file), has the same menus and controls without the ISP list:

The Close button (or Ctrl-Q) allows the user to dismiss the Gtkdial window. If a connection is active a warning dialog will check this is desired. A future aspiration is to have Gtkdial collapse into a panel applet on closure during a connection

The status line displays a continuously updated indication of Gtkdial's state. The Dial and Kill buttons and menu items will also grey according to the connection status. It is possible to interrupt a dialup before a connection is made by hitting the Kill button or Ctrl-K keys immediately.

The Connection Timer (for Catherine)

The menubar also allows access to various functions affecting the online timer:

The timer can be started or stopped manually (it starts automatically on a successful PPP connection), and can be reset to zero at any time.

Additionally, if the user has selected the option of saving the timer value between sessions, the saved timer can be zeroed from the menu.

Various timer related options can be set either from the preferences window, or via command line options.

The Connection Monitor Window

This window can be appended to the bottom of the main window if you are having problems with your connection, and will display the output of the spawned wvdial process.

You can open or close the Connection Monitor by right-clicking the main window, using the preferences window or command line options.
