Where did the sunshine go? Slept in and almost missed my bus. Over to Burnham this morning to see my parents who have finally found a buyer for their house, and are hoping to be moving soon now. Collected a bunch more archive tapes to sort through - good news is that I hopefully won't need to bring any more boxes back to my flat, which is practically bursting. A really weird, rather unnerving afternoon leads me to pour nervous energy into the new project. Wondering about sudden leap in bandwidth used by this site - it touched 28Mb last Thursday, which I can only attribute to gtranslator RPMs being snapped up by eager users.

Woke at the crack of dawn, after next to no sleep again. Beautiful day inspires me - spent lots of time happily hacking on Gtkdial today, and generally working towards the 0.4.0 release by implementing new timer features. Need to get the web page moved over to Sourceforge next. Much cleaning, tidying, letter-writing, bill-paying etc. Had a pleasant and fun evening discussing an exciting new web-based project over really good dinner. Extremely sleepy now - which is a pleasant novelty.

I just want to sleep properly! A slow day, but not entirely unbearable. Spare box at work is happily serving web stuff. News of a job interview, based at what's left of Russell House - this was originally planned for December. It's now got to the point where a generally downward spiraling career path doesn't phase me a bit. Convenience and sanity are suddenly such worthy pursuits. We triumph at the Brit Quiz after two good and one OK-ish round, and a pretty tight tie-break situation. Someone certified me as Journeyer on Advogato, which is nice!

Spent some time harvesting kit from the computer graveyard which lives behind my new desk, including a printer which will go to join the original <<lionel>>. Also have a semi-official RedHat 7.1 box on the desk next door! Managed to get sensible work out of Sourceforge, and now Gtkdial and its editor component are in CVS. Kabalak started the hacking by clearing up after me (thanks!), and I even squished two bugs in the newfound enthusiasm for my own horrid code. Lots of new projects to mull over tonight too. Spent a long time on IRC trying to be helpful.

I've had a home on the web for more years than I care to remember, and a few kind souls persuade me it's worth persisting with keeping it updated. This current incarnation of the site is centred around the blog posts which began back in 1999 as 'the daylog' and continued through my travels and tribulations during the following years.

I don't get out and about nearly as much these days, but I do try to record significant events and trips for posterity. You may also have arrived here by following the trail to my former music blog Songs Heard On Fast Trains. That content is preserved here too.
